Breaking Barriers and Saving Lives: Empowering Healthcare for Women and Girls with Disabilities at Fidelity Hospital, Abuja

In pursuit of our mandates, the Inclusive Voice for Women and Youth Initiative undertook a significant initiative to raise awareness among healthcare personnel regarding the high mortality rate among women and girls with disabilities in the reproductive age group in Montana. This initiative aimed to enhance inclusive practices within the healthcare sector, particularly at Fidelity Hospital in Lokogoma, FCT Abuja.

The sensitization program conducted by our organization sought to highlight the challenges faced by women and girls with disabilities in accessing quality healthcare services. By focusing on this specific demographic, we aimed to shed light on the disparities and gaps in reproductive healthcare that contribute to their increased mortality rates.

During the sensitization sessions, our team presented valuable insights and information to the healthcare personnel at Fidelity Hospital. We shared statistics and research findings to emphasize the urgent need for inclusive practices in addressing the healthcare needs of women and girls with disabilities. Through interactive discussions and informative presentations, we aimed to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by this marginalized group.

In addition to raising awareness, we also provided practical solutions to improve inclusive practices within the healthcare setting. One such contribution was the presentation of cleaning agents, which are essential for maintaining a hygienic environment in the hospital. By supplying these cleaning agents, we aimed to support the hospital staff in their efforts to ensure a clean and safe environment for all patients, including women and girls with disabilities.

By combining the sensitization program with the provision of cleaning agents, we aimed to promote a comprehensive approach to improving healthcare practices and reducing the mortality rate among women and girls with disabilities. Through our initiatives, we sought to foster a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system that prioritizes the needs and rights of all individuals, irrespective of their abilities.
