In today’s society, protecting the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities is a paramount concern. Disability Acts, when effectively implemented, play a vital role in ensuring accessibility, social inclusion, and equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Recently, the Inclusive Voice for Women and Youth Initiative participated in the Persons with Disabilities Community of Practice, supported by VOICE Nigeria, to advance dialogue and collaboration around the implementation of the Nigerian Disability Act. This platform created space for knowledge sharing, collective learning, and joint advocacy toward an inclusive society.
Understanding Disability Acts Disability Acts are comprehensive laws and policies that safeguard the rights of individuals with disabilities across areas such as:
Accessibility to infrastructure and services
Inclusive education and healthcare
Employment opportunities and workplace equity
Social protection and participation in governance
The ultimate goal is to eliminate discrimination, remove barriers, and create an inclusive environment that enables persons with disabilities to live with dignity and independence.
The Persons with Disabilities Community of Practice The Community of Practice brings together stakeholders, organizations, and advocates to:
Exchange knowledge and best practices on disability rights.
Strengthen collaboration for effective policy implementation.
Amplify the voices of persons with disabilities in shaping inclusive systems.
By fostering collective action, the platform enhances the capacity of participants and contributes to sustainable, rights-based inclusion strategies.
